CHS Homecoming 2010

Last weekend my family went home for my high school homecoming. We really had a good time. It was great seeing old friends and classmates. I told my husband that I was a little sad that our kids would not experience Carroll. My high school graduating class had about 130 students. You basically knew all of your classmates and their family members. Most of us lived in the same community and went to church together. The senior classes in my town have eight to ten times as many students. I fear Alyssa and Daniel will just be a number when they make it to high school. At Carroll, the teacher not only knew you by name, but they also knew your parents and siblings. Of course, I always thought that was a bad thing when I was in school.
Alyssa and Daniel really enjoyed the band. Unfortunately I passed the no dancing and singing gene to them. Alyssa was quite impressed when I told her I was in the band.
Because of Carroll, I have several lifetime friends that are always there for me. They are truly the best group of girlfriends a girl could ever ask for.
Last week on facebook different classes were remembering their classmates that have passed away. I thought of David Conway. A true gentleman. I remember him going out of his way to walk me and Latoya home from band practice at nite my freshman year. I also thought of Ya-Ya and Marcus Davis.
I am so blessed to have experienced Carroll High School, the Booker T Community and Barlow street (the BEST street in the neighborhood). I am a product of my environment, and I am grateful for the wonderful and not so wonderful experiences. I can't wait to see everyone again at the 20 year reunion in 2 years. You all are the best and I thank facebook for bringing us all together.
